The Sisters of the Cross and Passion

In 1852, the servant of God Elizabeth Prout (later known as Mother Mary Joseph of Jesus), an Englishwoman who had been received into the Catholic Church by Blessed Dominic Barberi, founded the Sisters of the Cross and Passion (who were at first known as the Sisters of the Holy Family) to bring the love of Christ Crucified to poor families in the industrial heart of Victorian England. In founding the Congregation, she was helped by Father Gaudentius Rossi C.P. and the servant of God Father Ignatius Spencer C.P. The Sisters of the Cross and Passion are now an international Congregation, serving the poor and needy in Britain and Ireland, the United States, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Botswana and Papua New Guinea.
